Alabama Renewable Energy Conference to Explore Profit Potential

MONTGOMERY— As the demand for renewable energy increases, Alabama farmers and entrepreneurs are learning how they can benefit. Representatives from agriculture, forestry and energy-related businesses will convene in Auburn Nov. 17-18 to discuss opportunities in the expanding bioenergy industry.

The 6th Annual Alabama Renewable Energy Conference will be held at the Auburn University Hotel and Dixon Conference Center. The Energy Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and Auburn University’s Natural Resources Management and Development Institute are sponsoring the event.

“The production and use of energy from renewable sources offer tremendous economic opportunities,” ADECA Director Doni Ingram said. “I encourage everyone with an interest in clean energy, agriculture and economic development to attend the conference and explore the benefits of renewable energy.”

The event will give attendees an overview of the industry in Alabama from experts across the state and nation. Presentations and panel discussions will profile successful renewable-energy projects in Alabama and throughout the world, highlight upcoming renewable-energy initiatives involving public and private partnerships, and focus on future opportunities for bioenergy production in Alabama. A preview of initiatives planned for introduction in the Alabama Legislature next year also will be presented.

More information, an agenda and online registration is available at the conference Web site: www.nrmdi.auburn.edu/bio/ADECA/conference/2009/. The deadline for registration is Nov. 11 and the fee is $75 per person or $25 for students, which includes lunch and an evening reception on Nov. 17 and breakfast on Nov. 18.
