Providers,
recipients and other interested individuals will have the opportunity to
provide input on the Alabama Medicaid Agency’s Plan First program during public
hearings in May in Birmingham and Montgomery.
Comments will
be taken during the first open forum on Thursday, May 11, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at
the Agency’s District Office, 468 Palisades Blvd, Birmingham. The second open
forum is slated for Friday, May 12, 10:00 a.m., in the Agency Central Office
4th Floor Board Room, 501 Dexter Ave., Montgomery.
The forums are
a requirement by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the
1115 Demonstration Waiver under which the Plan First program operates. The
waiver was originally approved in 2000 and was renewed by CMS on December 29,
2014. The current waiver will expire on December 31, 2017.
The goal of the
Plan First program is to reduce unintended pregnancies and improve the
well-being of Alabama’s children and families by extending Medicaid eligibility
for family planning services to eligible women and men.
A copy of the renewal application may be found on the Medicaid website at this link: 1115 Demonstration Waiver. Other Plan First information is available at this link: Family Planning/Plan First.
