ALEA’s Marine Patrol Adds Boating Classes to Schedule

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division has added two classes to its free basic boating class schedule for April, with locations across the state. During the course, participants will learn such information as how to safely operate a vessel, how to navigate the state’s waterways during the day and at night, and how to handle boating emergencies. In addition, the instructor will cover the legal requirements of boating. Classes are open to anyone who is at least 12 years old, the minimum age to take the test and obtain an Alabama vessel license, which is required for anyone to operate a motorized vessel on state waterways. A test will follow instruction time. Anyone interested in one of the ALEA classes should email name, address and phone number to class coordinator. (Participants may want to bring along a pen/pencil and highlighter.) Here is the current schedule: • 8 a.m. April 11 (eight-hour class): The Ridge Marina, 450 Ridge Marina Road, Alexander City.
