CLANTON- The Alabama Emergency Management Agency Information Technology Development Team has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Innovative Alabama Governments Awards in the Digital Government Innovation: State/Regional category. The development team is being recognized for their innovative use of technology to create the Risk Analysis Mapping Tool. The IT Development Team is composed of the following Alabama state employees: Ginger Boling (IT Database Specialist Associate), Melissa Mayo (GIS Specialist), and Trea Wilson (IT Systems Technician Senior)
The Risk Analysis Mapping Tool provides Alabama’s citizens with a visual display of historical natural hazards data coupled with the functionality of locating places using an address or geographic coordinates. This equips them with an enhanced ability to determine which environmental hazards they may face at any given location in the state. Additionally, the tool shows statewide critical facilities, allowing users to determine which ones may or may not be available to them should a disaster occur. The tool is an excellent supplement to the AEMA website and is available at www.ema.alabama.gov
The 2009 Innovative Alabama Governments Awards recognizes innovative government programs (non-technical) and digital government solutions (technology-driven), implemented between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009.
The award ceremony is scheduled for December 4th in Montgomery.
