CLANTON- Alabama's Type III Incident Management Team (IMT) is sending seven members to Los Angeles County to assist with command and control functions related to the Station Fire. This fire has consumed more than 121,000 acres and claimed the lives of two firefighters as of Tuesday morning. This extremely fast-moving fire has grown in size by over 16,000 acres since Monday. These team members will gain additional experience in managing large-scale incidents, while also providing staffing augmentation to the existing command staff at the event.
The following IMT members are scheduled to deploy:
Donnie West, Asst. Chief, Center Point Fire District
Gene Coleman, Captain, Birmingham Fire Rescue Service
Matt Russell, Battalion Chief, Birmingham Fire Rescue Service
Jim Coker, Captain, Hoover Police Department
Bill Hunter, District Chief, Mobile Fire Department
Shayne Lovitte, Logistics Officer, Saraland Fire Department
David Thornburg, Regional Director, Alabama Fire College
The IMT is part of the Alabama Mutual Aid System, which is coordinated and funded by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and Alabama Department of Homeland Security. Alabama Fire College is the host agency of the Type III IMT. The team members are scheduled to be in Los Angeles for seven days.
