WHAT: The 2011 Alabama Stars in Education event is hosted by the Alabama Department of Education and Alabama Public Television (APT), and honors great Alabama teachers and inspiring students

 

WHERE: Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery

WHEN: Wednesday, May 11, Live Broadcast beginning at 7 p.m.

 

WHO: The Alabama Department of Education, Alabama Public Television (APT), 12 semi-finalists and four finalists for Teacher of the Year and APT’s Young Heroes

 

The finalists are:

·         Pamela Yau, Edgewood Elementary School, Homewood City Schools

·         Gay F. Barnes, Horizon Elementary School, Madison County Schools

·         Katherine Pitts, Thomasville High School, Thomasville City Schools

·         Marla R. Hines, Vestavia Hills High School, Vestavia Hills City Schools

 

 The 2011-2012 Alabama Teacher of the Year will be announced at the ceremony. The event will also feature APT’s Young Heroes Awards.

 

APT’s Young Heroes Awards are given to five outstanding young people who have demonstrated courage, determination, volunteerism, and academic excellence. These students have overcome adversities, only to inspire others with their actions. For a list, please visit APT’s webpage for the 2011 Young Heroes.
