Montgomery, Ala. – Dwight Moon is the Alabama Department of Education’s Employee of the Quarter for October-December 2010. Moon, Property Inventory Accountant in the Purchasing Section, was selected by department employees as the Barbara Fannin Memorial Employee of the Quarter.
State Superintendent Dr. Joe Morton, members of the Employee Recognition Board, and co-workers surprised Moon with an engraved award, a Chick-fil-A gift card and a fitness gym pass. He will receive a resolution from the state Board of Education on October 14, 2010.
In his nomination, Michael O. Sibley, Director of Communication, described Moon as “a big person with a big heart. Mr. Moon finds a way to complete the task asked of him quickly and efficiently. His track record is 100 percent from my perspective. From his distinguished voice to his humble persona, Mr. Moon exudes professionalism, character, humility and thoughtfulness.”
Moon, who joined the department in 1992, commutes daily from Sylacauga, where he is a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He and his wife Kathleen, a retired school teacher, have five children and five grandchildren. Moon is a Vietnam veteran and a graduate of Alabama State University (ASU) with a degree in Accounting. He was a member of the 1975 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship basketball team at ASU. Moon is a talented singer/songwriter/producer/co-producer of six gospel CDs: five as a founding member of The Alabama Boys (formerly The Gospel Harmonizers of Montgomery) and one with his siblings.
The Barbara Fannin Memorial Employee of the Quarter award recognizes staff members who have demonstrated outstanding work ethics and dedication to assist fellow employees, local school personnel, and the general public. Candidates are nominated for the award by their colleagues. Members of the department’s Employee Recognition Board, who are nominated and elected by fellow employees, review all nominations and make the final selection each quarter. The quarterly award is named in honor of the late Barbara Fannin, a recipient of the award.
