Montgomery, AL - The revised State Performance Plan (SPP) and the Annual Performance Report (APR) for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2008 are available for review on the Alabama Department of Education Web site at www.alsde.edu. From the menu provided, select Sections/Special Education/SPP/APR.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires each state to submit an SPP to the U. S. Department of Education (USDE). The SPP will be used to evaluate each state’s efforts in implementing the requirements and purposes of the IDEA and to improve state implementation. The SPP includes the following:
1. baseline data that reflect the state’s efforts to implement Part B of the IDEA;
2. measurable and rigorous targets for the years 2005-2006 through 2010-2011 for each of the indicators established by the U.S. Secretary of Education in the priority areas under Section 616(a) of the IDEA; and
3. activities the state will undertake to improve implementation of Part B.
The IDEA further requires that each state submit an APR to the USDE that includes data on the state’s performance in relation to the measurable and rigorous targets established in the SPP.
This information provides evidence of the efforts expended on behalf of students with disabilities in Alabama and documents the state’s progress toward appropriate identification and delivery of special education and related services. The SPP is a working document and will be updated annually, as needed.
