Montgomery, Ala. – Ed Crenshaw is the Alabama Department of Education’s Employee of the Quarter for April-June 2010. Crenshaw, Public Information Specialist for Career Technical Education (CTE) and Communication, was selected by Department employees as the Barbara Fannin Memorial Employee of the Quarter. He received an engraved award, a $25 gift card from Books-A-Million, and a resolution from the state Board of Education at its regular meeting on April 8, 2010.
In presenting the award, Dr. Joe Morton, State Superintendent of Education, said, “Ed is very deserving and is an excellent choice for this award. I am very pleased to honor him for his work ethic and positive attitude.”
Crenshaw joined the Alabama Department of Education in January 2003. He works tirelessly behind the scenes to promote CTE. A few of his projects include the CTE “Wall of Fame” outside the State Superintendent’s Office, CTE Talents newsletter and CTE Communication Plan. Crenshaw earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations/Communication from Alabama State and a master’s degree in Human Resources from Troy.
In addition to his busy work schedule, Crenshaw and his wife Stephanie, a teacher at E.D. Nixon Elementary, are the parents of three lively and active Cub Scouts – one in kindergarten and twins in 4th grade at MacMillan International Academy. They live in Montgomery and attend Weeping Willow Missionary Baptist Church, where Ed volunteers with the Crusaders youth group and is the percussionist every Sunday. His musical roots run deep: His Dad retired last year after 38 years as band director at Ramsey High School in Birmingham. Crenshaw, who started out as a music major in college, won several awards in high school and college including UAB Best Jazz Solo Competition, John Phillip Sousa Award, and Most Improved Band Member.
The Barbara Fannin Memorial Employee of the Quarter award recognizes staff members who have demonstrated outstanding work ethics and dedication to assist fellow employees, local school personnel, and the general public. Candidates are nominated for the award by their colleagues. Members of the department’s Employee Recognition Board, who are nominated and elected by fellow employees, review all nominations and make the final selection each quarter. The quarterly award is named in honor of the late Barbara Fannin, a recipient of the award.
