WHAT: Jumpstart’s Read for the Record - national and statewide early literacy campaign
The TODAY show will kick off the nationwide event with Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira and other special guests reading Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
In Alabama, the Alabama Reading Initiative is spearheading the statewide campaign.
WHEN: October 8, 2009
WHERE: Alabama public schools with Grades K-1
WHY: To promote early childhood literacy and to encourage hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day
STATE SPONSORS: Dr. William E. Powell III, Executive Vice President, Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, and the Alabama Child Nutrition Program
Thanks to their generous support, every Alabama public school with Grades K-1 will receive commemorative copies of Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The Pearson Foundation is donating books for pre-K and kindergarten teachers in Hoover City Schools and Limestone County Schools.
