MONTGOMERY – Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $3,439 grant for additional equipment to help the Washington County Sheriff’s Office protect residents and maintain peace.
The Sheriff’s Office will purchase Tasers, non-lethal electronic control devices that deputies can use to temporarily incapacitate persons long enough for them to be safely subdued.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement and public safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified Chairman Allen Bailey of the Washington County Commission that the grant had been approved. The County Commission is the fiscal agent for the grant.
