Grant to buy equipment for Butler Police Department

MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $1,121 grant to help the town of Butler purchase new police equipment.

The police department will provide patrol officers with video cameras will serve multiple purposes. The equipment can be used as mounted cameras in vehicles and as body cameras worn by patrol officers. The cameras will provide evidence used in court and can be used for officer training.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources, job training and career development.

Bentley notified Mayor Michael Williams that the grant had been approved.
