MONTGOMERY— A $162,110 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will help provide 17 new jobs in Lowndes County while also improving living conditions in the area.
The funds will assist the town of Hayneville in upgrading its sewer system. The improvements will ensure continued service for Daehan Solution, a parts supplier for the automobile manufacturing industry, and permit the company to add 17 new jobs.
“This grant will improve a needed service in Lowndes County and help create jobs,” Bentley said. “I am especially pleased to have the opportunity to help bring new employment opportunities to our Black Belt region.”
Both Hayneville and Daehan are sharing in the $6,000 monthly operating expense of an emergency pump which is required to provide service to the business which is located in the Lowndes County Industrial Park. The emergency pump was needed after failure of the regular pump.
Hayneville will use the grant funds to install and upgrade two lift stations, including pumps, and upgrades will prevent backflows and slow drainage. Future business expansions and household development will be feasible in the area once these improvements are completed.
Daehan provides lining, insulation and trim for automobiles manufactured by Hyundai, Kia and other regional car manufacturers.
Bentley notified Robert Lewis, chairman, Lowndes County Commission, that the grant had been approved.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy, water resources, job training and career development.
