There might not be a kitchen sink in the mix, but nearly everything else will be up for sale during the state surplus public auction Wednesday (May 20) in Montgomery.
Several thousand items will be sold during the auction at the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs’ Surplus Property warehouse, 4590 Mobile Highway. The auction will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until every item is sold.
Items up for auction include office furniture, computers and electronics, lab and medical equipment, commercial kitchen equipment and vehicles. Most items, except vehicles are grouped and sold in lots.
Auction merchandise includes property no longer needed by state and federal agencies and items not allowed on commercial airlines that passengers voluntarily abandoned at airport security checkpoints throughout the southeastern U.S.
All bidders are required to submit a photo ID and a Social Security or federal ID number. Prospective bidders can inspect the items at the warehouse on Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Proceeds exceeding auction operation costs are deposited in the state’s general fund. Surplus auctions are held about three times a year, but surplused items may be inspected and bought by state, county and municipal governments and many non-profit organizations throughout the year.
