MONTGOMERY— Workers at a Calhoun County company are learning new job skills with the help of a $26,748 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.
Laser Fabrication and Machine Co. is training 30 employees in techniques to improve efficiency. The company provides engineering, prototyping, fabrication and manufacturing services for a range of industries. Company officials say the training will help it attain updated certification from the International Organization for Standardization, a requirement for many business contracts.
“When a company’s employees learn new skills, business is strengthened and employees gain better job security,” Bentley said.
The Alabama Technology Network is providing the training over a 12-month period. Laser Fabrication and Machine is contributing $246,976 toward the training cost.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley informed Teresa Kauffman, the company’s office manager, that he had approved the grant.
