MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley awarded a $7,667 grant to help the town of Shorter purchase new police equipment.
Town officials say the Police Department will purchase a variety of equipment to help manage crowds at public gatherings and in other situations.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the Justice Department. ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley informed Mayor Willie Mae Powell that he had approved the grant.
