MONTGOMERY— The Lowndes County Commission and the town of Hayneville will soon purchase new law enforcement equipment with the help of grants totaling $14,417.

A $10,000 grant will enable Sheriff’s Office to purchase a new electronic fingerprinting system to replace the current system.

With a $4,417 grant, the Hayneville Police Department will upgrade various equipment used in patrols, emergency responses and crime-scene investigations.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the Justice Department. ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

Bentley notified County Commission Chairman Robert Harris and Hayneville Mayor David Daniel that he had approved the grants.
