MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $5,786 grant to help the city of Leeds purchase new police equipment.

The police department will obtain body cameras for patrol officers. The video cameras can provide evidence used in court and can be used for officer training.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources, job training and career development.

Bentley notified Mayor David Miller that the grant had been approved.
