MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $22,500 grant to the Crenshaw County Commission to help the Sheriff’s Office continue the services of a domestic violence investigator.
The funds permit the sheriff to designate a deputy to specialize in the investigation of domestic violence crimes in the county. The investigator also makes victims aware of medical treatment, legal aid and other assistance available, and holds meetings to educate potential victims about signs of abuse.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Ricky McElwain, chairman of the County Commission, that he had approved the grant. Matching funds of $7,500 are supplementing the award.
