MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $9,894 grant to the Marengo County Commission to equip the patrol cars of Sheriff’s deputies with new computers.
The 14 new laptop computers will allow deputies to send reports electronically and access important law enforcement databases and other information from their patrol cars. Sending documents electronically allows deputies to spend more time on patrol and less time in the office filling paperwork.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources, job training and career development.
Bentley notified Michael Thompson, County Commission chairman, that the grant had been approved.
