MONTGOMERY— A $154,650 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will help out-of-school youth ages 16-21 in Montgomery County finish school and find a career.
The grant will support a program at the Central Alabama Opportunities Industrialization Center that will help 50 youth obtain a GED, develop basic workforce skills and search for an appropriate job.
“Young people who lack basic education and job-skills training face a serious barrier to employment,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to support this effort to help participants attain the education and skills they need to turn their lives around and become self-supporting citizens.”
Central Alabama OIC is a nonprofit organization that offers training, job placement, and other necessary services to economically disadvantaged individuals who lack the skills to begin a career.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. ADECA manages a wide array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, workforce development, energy conservation, water resource management, economic development and recreation.
Bentley notified Consuello Harper, CAOIC executive director, that the grant had been approved.
