Workers at a Scottsboro company are learning new job skills with the help of a $24,100 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.
The grant is helping The Kennedy Co. train six employees in methods to improve efficiency. The company manufactures a variety of vinyl products. Kennedy officials say the training will help it attain certification from the International Organization for Standardization, which will enable the company to compete for additional business contracts.
Southeastern Quality Management is providing the on-site training over a seven-month period. The company is contributing $32,075 toward the training cost.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley informed Sarah Precise, president of the company, that he had approved the grant.
