MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $1,073 grant to enable the city of Riverside to purchase computers for police patrol cars.
The computers will allow officers to access information quickly and file reports from the scene of an incident. By eliminating the need to travel to the police station to file paperwork, officers can spend more time on patrol, preventing crimes and protecting residents.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department.
ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Mayor Rusty Jessup that he had approved the grant.
