MONTGOMERY – Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $35,158 grant to support a program in Dallas County that helps juvenile offenders make positive changes in their lives.
The Dallas County Children’s Policy Council will use the grant to continue working with offenders to change their negative behaviors and keep them from reentering the court system. Program staff members work with the youth’s family and probation officer in an effort to steer the youth away from unlawful activities.
To hold a juvenile offender accountable, program monitors make periodic checks of school attendance, activities and whereabouts and perform curfew checks to report to the parent or guardian.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, workforce development, energy conservation, economic development, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified District Judge Robert Armstrong III that the grant had been approved.
