Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $500,000 grant to help an Enterprise company reach new heights in its aviation business and provide 200 new jobs.
The Community Development Block Grant awarded to the city of Enterprise will provide infrastructure enabling Alabama Aircraft Support to expand its business and construct a 64,800-square-foot aircraft maintenance building and hangar. The company specializes in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of military and commercial helicopters and small aircraft.
βIt is a tribute to Alabama workers that our state is not only recognized for excellence in automobile manufacturing, but also has an equally good reputation in the aviation and aerospace industries,β Bentley said. βI am pleased to support this project and commend the dedicated community leaders, company officials and employees that have made this expansion possible.β
CDBG funding will provide sewer services to the facility that will be built on a 9-acre site at Enterprise Municipal Airport. The city has pledged $219,940 in additional funds for the sewer project.
Bentley notified Mayor Kenneth Boswell that the grant had been approved.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy, water resources, job training and career development.
