MONTGOMERY – Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $9,836 grant to help the city of Oxford purchase equipment for the police department.
The city will purchase Tasers to equip police officers with a non-lethal tool to help them subdue uncooperative suspects who pose a threat to the officers and the public.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range or programs that support law enforcement, workforce development, energy conservation, economic development, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified Mayor Leon Smith that the grant had been approved.
