A $19,485 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will upgrade the Clanton Police Department and improve public safety.
The city will use the grant to buy video cameras for patrol vehicles. Officers can use the cameras to record evidence at traffic stops and for criminal cases. The police department also can employ the video recordings as a training tool, helping ensure that officers conduct themselves properly and professionally while on duty.
Bentley notified Mayor Billy Joe Driver that the funding had been approved. The Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs administers the grant program with federal funds.
ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, workforce development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
