MONTGOMERY – Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $128,250 grant to help local personnel across Alabama respond appropriately to the needs of sexual assault victims.
The Alabama Coalition Against Sexual Violence will spend the funds to provide training and assistance to law enforcement agencies, advocacy groups, government agencies and medical professionals who help victims after a sexual assault. The coalition also provides training and technical assistance to prosecutors who handle sexual assault cases. The goal of the program is to improve services for victims and strengthen the investigation and prosecution of rape and sexual assault cases.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified Meg McGlamery, the organization’s president, that the grant had been approved.
