MONTGOMERY—A $28,423 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will help Troy University add an extra measure of security around campus.

The university will purchase and install security cameras in several public locations to detect and deter crimes. University police officers will have the ability to monitor the video footage live and prevent crimes. The footage also will be recorded.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department.

Bentley notified Dr. Jack Hawkins, chancellor of Troy University, that the grant had been approved.
