MONTGOMERY— Gov. Bob Riley has awarded a $50,000 grant to enhance the job skills of 30 employees at an Auburn-based company.
Hoerbiger Automotive Comfort Systems Inc. will use the grant funds to train workers to identify waste in production, improve work processes and increase product quality.
“To keep good jobs in our state, Alabama businesses must remain competitive in the global marketplace,” said Riley. “I am pleased to provide this funding to enhance skills, protect jobs and support new employment opportunities.”
Hoerbiger manufactures automobile convertible top systems for vehicles such as the BMW Z4. The company began operations in Alabama in 2001.
Company officials estimate that the 12-month training program will increase sales by 15 percent over the next three years, help the business win new contracts and create more jobs.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Labor as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by President Obama earlier this year.
Riley notified Erik Olshall, the company’s president, that the grant had been approved. The company has committed $61,144 as its share of the training cost.
