MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $7,000 grant to ensure domestic violence victims in southwest Alabama know that there is help and assistance to escape abusive situations.
The Family Counseling Center of Mobile will use funds to create awareness of domestic violence and the services offered to victims and their families in Mobile, Clarke and Washington counties.
“People who are victims of abuse, particularly in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, need to know they are not alone and there are places to offer refuge and assistance,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am thankful during these trying times for agencies like the Family Counseling Center of Mobile which provide victims with the resources they need to escape violent situations.”
The center provides counseling and other services to victims and works with other agencies to help victims overcome obstacles and lead productive lives.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Gov. Ivey has been steadfast in her support for victims of abuse,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins with Gov. Ivey and the Family Counseling Center to assist victims in southwest Alabama.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
