MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded two grants totaling $46,373 to provide law enforcement agencies in central Alabama with needed resources.
Gov. Ivey awarded $23,968 to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office and $22,405 to the Montevallo Police Department. The funds will upgrade equipment enabling the two law enforcement agencies to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
“Our police officers and sheriffs’ deputies put themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis to enforce our laws and protect our residents,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to provide these grants to ensure they have the equipment needed to perform their duties.”
The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office will update software in patrol vehicles and upgrade technology at the office.
The Montevallo Police Department will upgrade its fingerprint scanning system to provide faster data and increase the department’s ability to share that information with other law enforcement agencies.
The grants were supplied to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants.
“Gov. Ivey and ADECA are steadfast in support of our state’s law enforcement officers,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “We are pleased to join with the governor in supplying these funds.”
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resources management, energy conservation and recreation.
