MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded three grants to provide special handling of domestic violence cases and ensure that victims receive needed services.

A $74,424 grant to the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office will help fund One Place of the Shoals which serves domestic violence victims and victims of sexual assault, child abuse and elder abuse in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Marion and Winston counties.

An $84,234 grant to the Lawrence County Commission and a $63,924 grant to the Marshall County Commission will be used by each county’s domestic violence unit to investigate and prosecute cases and ensure victims receive proper care.

“Proper handling of domestic violence cases is essential to protecting victims and ensuring that justice is served,” Gov. Ivey said. “With the help of these grants, these agencies will better serve victims of these terrible crimes in north Alabama.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“Gov. Ivey continues to show a passion for justice and a heart for crime victims in our state, and ADECA is pleased to play our role in supporting her efforts to help victims get assistance and obtain justice,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim services, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
