MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded two grants totaling $107,867 to help continue services to victims of domestic violence in seven west Alabama counties.
An $88,615 grant to SAN Inc., better known as Turning Point, will help the organization continue serving victims in Bibb, Fayette, Hale, Lamar, Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties. The Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama will continue serving victims in Walker County thanks in part to a $19,252 grant.
Both organizations provide services including a crisis telephone line, emergency shelter, counseling, court advocacy, support services and more.
“For anyone suffering in an abusive situation, there is help available,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend Turning Point and the Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama for all the work they do to help victims escape violence and begin their path to recovery.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“Gov. Ivey understands the importance of these services being available year-round for those in need, and ADECA stands with her in commending the staff of these two organizations for their service to their communities,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victims services, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
Gov. Ivey notified Jaela Avery of Turning Point and Allison Jones of the Family Resource Center that the grants had been approved.
