MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $4,491 grant to enable the Millbrook Police Department to upgrade equipment that will help officers better perform their duties.

Millbrook will use the grant to purchase vest carriers for officers. The vests will help redistribute much of the equipment that officers are required to carry and make those items more convenient to retrieve.

“Every day our law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to serve the public and carry out their duties,” Ivey said. “I am grateful to the Millbrook Police Department and all the people who wear a law enforcement badge for the sacrifices they make for all of us. I am pleased to help Millbrook obtain this new equipment for officers.”

The vests lessen the amount of equipment and weight on officers’ waist belts, helping to make them more mobile while out on patrol.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department.

“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey to provide Millbrook patrol officers with equipment that will help them in the line of duty,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
