MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $391,910 grant to support a nonprofit organization that assists child abuse victims in Limestone County.
The grant will help the Athens-Limestone Children’s Advocacy Center to continue providing counseling, advocacy and other services to young victims of sexual and physical abuse. The center also assists family members determined not to have been involved in the abuse.
“No child should ever have to suffer from these horrible crimes, but professional assistance is available to those who unfortunately become victims,” Ivey said. “I commend the staff of the Athens-Limestone Children’s Advocacy Center for the important work they do to help children in their recovery.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim services, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation development.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in commending the staff of the Athens-Limestone Children’s Advocacy Center for their dedication to helping children in their community who have suffered from abuse,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
Along with grants, the organization relies on local, private donations to ensure that free services remain available throughout the year.
Ivey notified Claire Tinney Jones of the Children’s Advocacy Center that the grant had been approved.
