MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $242,611 grant to continue assisting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in Covington County.
The grant to the city of Andalusia will enable the South Alabama Victim Services Collaborative to help victims throughout the county. The organization offers advocacy, case management support, interventions, counseling, community outreach and other services.
"The professional services and assistance provided at the South Alabama Victims Services Collaborative are vital to the recovery of those who have been victimized by sexual assault or domestic violence," Ivey said. "I commend the work of the staff who help victims in their recovery and seek justice for the crimes committed against them."
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Gov. Ivey continues to show her commitment to victims of crime in our state, and ADECA joins her in commending the staff of the South Alabama Victim Services Collaborative for the important work they do,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
Ivey notified Mayor Earl Johnson that the grant had been approved.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation development.
