MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $218,380 grant to help crime victims in six northwest Alabama counties.
The grant will enable the city of Florence to partner with One Place of the Shoals Inc. to ensure that crime victims receive the help they need. The organization serves adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as elder abuse in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Marion and Winston counties.
“When these types of crime unfortunately occur, victims deserve access to professional assistance,” Ivey said. “I commend the staff at One Place of the Shoals for the work they do to help victims take the first steps toward recovery.”
One Place helps victims plan for safety, works with law enforcement to file protection orders when needed, and assists them with obtaining community resources specific to the types of crimes committed.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
“Gov. Ivey understands the importance of ensuring that victims of crime receive timely, professional help, and ADECA is happy to assist One Place of the Shoals as they meet the needs of their communities,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
Ivey notified Florence Mayor Steve Holt that the grant had been approved.
