MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $123,215 grant to support a nonprofit agency that assists victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in Covington County.

The city of Andalusia is using grant funds to expand the services of the South Alabama Victim Service Collaborative to help victims throughout the county. The organization supports victims by offering advocacy and case management support, interventions, counseling, community outreach and courtroom advocacy.

“This organization provides an invaluable community service by giving abuse victims access to a variety of professional services and assistance,” Ivey said. “I commend the work of the staff and volunteers who help victims heal and seek justice for the crimes committed against them.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“Gov. Ivey is committed to helping those who have unfortunately become victims of abuse and need access to professional services,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “This expansion of services will allow the South Alabama Victim Service Collaborative and the city of Andalusia to help even more victims in need of assistance.”

ADECA manages a wide array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, energy conservation, water resource management, economic development and recreation.
