MONTGOMERY-- Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $28,500 grant to the town of Eva to provide a permanent solution to a longstanding drainage and erosion problem that presents an ever-increasing health hazard.
The Community Development Block Grant will enable the town to repair a growing sinkhole in the parking lot of the town’s library and which is threatening to expand toward a highway.
“I am pleased to help the town of Eva to meet a pressing infrastructure need, while also preventing further deterioration and eliminating the risk of injury and further property damage,” Ivey said. “The health and safety of our residents are top priority, and I am grateful that funds are available through the Community Development Block Grant program for this solution.”
CDBG funds will be used to buy pipe, drainage boxes and culvert necessary to replace damaged stormwater pipe and improve overall drainage. The work, which will be done by the Morgan County Commission, will also involve alleviating flash flooding and water pooling.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“The Community Development Block Grant program exists to help cities and towns like Eva address critical infrastructure needs related to health and safety,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to join Governor Ivey in helping Eva resolve this issue permanently.”
Ivey notified Mayor Gary Livingston that the grant had been approved.
ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
