MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $95,135 in grants to upgrade law enforcement equipment at four agencies in southeast Alabama.
The city of Ozark, city of Andalusia and Geneva County will each use $24,000 grants to make the purchases. The city of Union Springs will use a $23,135 grant to purchase a variety of new police equipment.
“Our police officers and sheriff’s deputies often work in highly dangerous situations and deserve the best equipment possible while serving and protecting residents,” Ivey said. “I am happy to assist in the efforts of these law enforcement agencies as they continue to serve their communities.”
Ozark is using funds to purchase a new patrol vehicle for the Police Department.
Andalusia will purchase a new Computer Aided Dispatch system for use by the police communications center. The system will enable communications officers the ability to dispatch the closest officer to a call based on the displayed availability monitored by the CAD system.
Geneva County will use funds to purchase new Taser stun guns and accessories for the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office.
Union Springs will purchase new Taser stun guns, shotguns, body cameras and digital cameras for use by the Police Department.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources management and career development.
