Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $10,367 to help the city of Muscle Shoals improve public safety and protect residents.
The two grants will enable the police department to purchase an assortment of equipment needed to help police officers and investigators, including a handheld evidence management device that allows police to more efficiently collect, store and retrieve evidence.
“Our law enforcement officers are to be commended for the services they provide to keep our neighborhoods and roadways safe,” Ivey said. “I am proud of our men and women who wear police uniforms, and I am pleased to provide these funds to help them perform their duties safely and effectively.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department.
“ADECA is involved with so many partnerships that benefit Alabamians and make our state a better place to live,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said. “This partnership with Muscle Shoals gives police officers items that will help them as they conduct their daily duties.”
ADECA has awarded numerous grants to law enforcement agencies to purchase equipment those local agencies deem more essential to their needs. The agency administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Ivey notified Muscle Shoals Mayor David Bradford that she had approved the grants.
