Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $79,380 grant to help an Albertville business expand and create 35 new jobs in the community.
The Community Development Block Grant will provide infrastructure improvements necessary to enable ColorMasters, located in the George Wallace Industrial Park, to undergo a $20 million expansion. ColorMasters produces plastic and shrink-wrap packaging used by numerous manufacturers.
“I am always pleased when new jobs are created, but I am especially excited when I see companies in Alabama succeed and produce those jobs by expanding,” Ivey said. “I join with other state and local leaders in congratulating ColorMasters on its success.”
CDBG funds will be used to double the size of the water lines serving ColorMasters and its sister company, Master Extrusions, which is located across the road. The water line improvements will help increase water flow and pressure, and increase fire suppression capability. ColorMasters and Master Extrusions combined employ about 450 people.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“Through our valuable partnerships, CDBG funds over the years have been able to help so many people and improve so many lives,” ADECA Director Jim Byard said. “I am so proud to be a part of this process that requires the cooperation of so many.”
Ivey notified Mayor Tracy Honea that the grant had been approved. Albertville is providing $37,800 in local funds toward the project.
ADECA has awarded numerous grants to law enforcement agencies to purchase equipment those local agencies deem more essential to their needs. It administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
