MONTGOMERY—Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $1,859 grant to the city of Robertsdale to assist in the purchase of new police equipment.
Grant funds will be used to purchase a new laptop computer to help streamline officer duties such as data sharing and paperwork.
“Police officers need to be able to complete the administrative functions of their jobs in a timely manner so they can focus on protecting residents and enforcing the law,” Ivey said. “This new equipment is going to allow Robertsdale officers to do just that while on duty.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department.
“ADECA’s partnership with local law enforcement agencies across our state has helped purchase equipment to create safer and more productive environments for police officers and residents,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said. “We are pleased to be able to continue assisting Robertsdale in its efforts to make its officers better equipped.”
ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Ivey notified Mayor Charles Murphy that she had approved the grant.
