MONTGOMERY– Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $6,807 grant to provide equipment for the Prattville Police Department.
The grant will enable the city to purchase new laptop computers for patrol officers, replacing outdated laptops, reducing the number of shared computers and decreasing down-time involved when older units have to be repaired.
“It is vital to ensure that our law enforcement officers have the equipment they need and are able to retrieve important information in a timely manner,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to help the city of Prattville obtain new computers to help them serve and protect their residents.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“ADECA partners with law enforcement agencies across the state to ensure they are properly equipped to serve their residents,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said. “These new laptops will help Prattville officers retrieve information quickly and provide more reliable communication while they are on patrol.”
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. that the grant had been approved.
