MONTGOMERY— The Town of Lynn will purchase new police equipment with the help of an $8,461 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.
The grant will enable the Winston County town to replace a variety of old and outdated equipment with more technologically advanced models.
“Our police officers work hard every day to protect our communities, and they need adequate, up-to-date equipment to help them perform their duties effectively,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to help the town of Lynn obtain this new police equipment.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant fund.
“Through this grant program, ADECA is able to partner with Lynn and dozens of other cities, towns and counties across Alabama each year to help them purchase the equipment vital to the local law enforcement agencies that protect our communities,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said.
ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Mayor Jeff Stokes that the grant had been approved.
