MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $4,136 grant to help the city of Irondale to purchase new equipment for police officers.
The Irondale Police Department will purchase three new laptop computers for patrol cars, four emergency start boxes that can be used for jumping dead car batteries and crime scene tape.
“Our law enforcement officers, who sacrifice so much, need adequate equipment to do their jobs effectively,” Bentley said. “I am pleased that we can help Irondale purchase this new equipment for officers.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources management and career development.
“One of the strongest partnerships ADECA has is with local law enforcement agencies,” ADECA Director Jim Byard, Jr. said. “Public safety is important to every Alabamian, and ADECA proudly partners with law enforcement agencies across Alabama to support their mission. The grant to with the Irondale Police Department will help them obtain important equipment for police officers on patrol."
Bentley notified Mayor Tommy Joe Alexander that the grant had been approved.
