MONTGOMERY– Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded an $8,325 grant to the town of Owens Crossroads for police equipment.
The Madison County town will purchase body cameras for officers to wear while on patrol. The recorded interactions can be used as evidence in court and as a training tool.
“Police officers need the proper tools to perform their jobs safely and effectively,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to help Owens Crossroads purchase the body cameras.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation.
“Public safety is the key mission of law enforcement, and ADECA partners with police and sheriff’s departments around the state to help them purchase the equipment needed to fulfill this mission,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said. “These cameras will help Owens Crossroads police in their duties to serve and protect.”
Bentley notified Mayor Tony Craig that the grant had been approved.
