MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $4,861 grant to help the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office purchase new weapons for deputies.
The Cherokee County Commission is using the funds to purchase sidearms to replace ones that are more than 20 years old, county officials said.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources management and career development.
Bentley notified Commission Chairman Kirk Day that the grant had been approved.
