MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded grants totaling $6,594 to help the city of Tarrant purchase needed police equipment.
The city will purchase new computers for police patrol cars. The mobile units enable police officers immediate access to driver’s license, vehicle registration and arrest warrant information when making a traffic stop. The computers also allow officers to issue citations and complete reports involving traffic crashes and arrests from their vehicle.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Mayor Loxcil Tuck that the grants had been approved.
